Job Summary:
The Lockwood Group is currently looking for a Logistics Technical Writer to support the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM) Armaments Center. The individual will develop, update, and manage technical publications and illustrations for military systems. The ideal candidate will have experience in technical documentation, logistics support, and working within Department of Defense (DoD) standards.
Key Responsibilities:

Develop, write, edit, and maintain technical manuals, maintenance instructions, and other logistics publications in accordance with MIL-STD-40051, MIL-STD-2361, S1000D, and other applicable military standards.

Work closely with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), engineers, and logisticians to translate complex technical information into clear, concise, and user-friendly documentation.

Create and revise technical illustrations, schematics, and diagrams using software such as AutoCAD, Adobe Illustrator, and Creo Illustrate.

Ensure compliance with DoD and Army logistics and sustainment policies, including Integrated Logistics Support (ILS), Life Cycle Sustainment Plan (LCSP), and Logistics Product Data (LPD) requirements.

Conduct technical reviews and validation/verification of documentation with maintenance personnel, operators, and engineering teams.

Develop Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs) and ensure compatibility with military electronic publication systems.

Manage document configuration, version control, and distribution of technical publications through government-approved repositories.

Provide support for training materials, field service guides, and other logistics-related documentation as needed.
Required Qualifications:
-
Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, Engineering, Logistics, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in military technical writing, logistics documentation, or technical publications.

Proficiency in XML/SGML authoring tools such as Arbortext, FrameMaker, or similar software.

Strong understanding of military logistics, maintenance procedures, and sustainment engineering.

Experience with technical illustration tools and ability to interpret engineering drawings and schematics.

Familiarity with Army and DoD logistics systems such as Logistics Modernization Program (LMP), Global Combat Support System – Army (GCSS-Army), and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.

Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams.

Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
-
Experience with S1000D technical publication development.

Prior work with U.S. Army Technical Manuals (TMs) and Interactive Authoring and Display Software (IADS).

Knowledge of Army Materiel Command (AMC) and DEVCOM policies and procedures.
